Serious Child - Bio
Serious Child is songwriter and roots musician Alan Young from West Sussex.
He draws from a wide range of acoustic musical influences from folk to pop to bossa nova to explore the world around us with a poet’s ear for emotion and a comedian’s eye for everyday detail.
Serious Child’s performances are characterised by a deep connection with his audience and a restlessness as he moves between an array of instruments. He tells stories, laughs and chats like an old friend, whilst shifting seamlessly between styles from music hall to the saddest of folk ballads.
Having learnt to perform over decades in pub bands, Young only wrote his first song when he hit his 50th birthday. He has gone on to write three critically acclaimed albums, collaborate with a number of artists he regards as heroes, be nominated for Fatea Album of the Year and become one of the most distinctive voices on the folk scene.
Serious Child has a new album What Lies Beneath ready to be released in Summer 2025, and is currently working on a contemporary dance project with the Three Score Dance Company around one of the songs from the album - Dusk On The 33.
